About Bassetlaw Games
The London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games proved to be an inspiration to the sports clubs, organisations and people across Bassetlaw.
During 2012, the aim across Bassetlaw was to deliver activities in all of the Olympic Sports linked to the London Games, all being delivered within the district of Bassetlaw itself.
The sports and activities delivered by the sports clubs and organisations, coupled with the Bassetlaw Schools Torch Relay, resulted in resounding success and acclaim for the district. The final estimated participation figures were put at over 55,000 people becoming involved in at least one activity linked to Bassetlaw Games.
The Bassetlaw Games was awarded with the; “Project Of The Year” by Nottinghamshire County Council at the County Sports Review of 2012.
The actual global, geographical location of the Olympic & Paralympic Games should make little difference to the inspiration that the games can have on people wishing to take part in sport and physical activity. Rio de Janeiro being approximately 6,000 miles away from Bassetlaw as opposed to London being 150 miles away makes little difference to the influence that the Olympic & Paralympic Games can have.
The Bassetlaw Games are therefore back in 2016 and aim to repeat the successes from 2012. The Sports Clubs and organisations across the district have signed up to support the idea with over 90% of the Rio Olympic Sports already being represented.
The key to the making Bassetlaw Games 2016 successful are the clubs and organisations in the district delivering their sports sessions so that Bassetlaw residents can become involved in new activities.
The one main focus of marketing and promotion to inform the general public of what is happening throughout the year will be this interactive and informative website.
